7 New Year's Resolutions to Make This Year

Photo by Annie Spratt on Unsplash 1. Set goals for your home  Write a list, develop a dream board, make a Pinterist board, or create a Houzz ideabook to capture your home goals for the year ahead. Would you like to downsize, go more minimal, be more daring with color, add some art or decor to make your house feel like a home, move to a bigger or smaller city, declutter your home, or finally determine a decorating style that feels just like you? It's all up to you but set those goals so you are focused for the year ahead. 2. Be clean & clear Get a jump on spring cleaning and go through the home room-by-room to clear them of anything that you don't use, wear, or love and donate those items to charity. And resolve to do this periodically too, not just once or twice a year. Cleaning and decluttering (plus organizing) are one of the best and least expensive ways to feel better about, and breathe a little easier in, your home.  3. Add some green Plants hav

Spruce Up Your Bathroom Inexpensively

Bathroom remodels can be very expensive. But, there are alternatives that can give your bathroom a great new look for much less money. Here are some things to consider when you want to spruce up your bathroom inexpensively: 1. Consider replacing your old bathroom vanity counter with a new one. This is an easy (but time consuming) DIY project so you wouldn't necessarily even need to hire someone to do the painting. 3. Consider getting new shower curtains. Nice linen curtains drawn all the way across the shower entrance on the outside of the bath will give a luxurious feel. Save the plastic curtain for the inside of the shower where it will get wet. And this would work to cover older showe

Why hire an interior designer? What's the cost?

Hint: the cost to hire and interior designer is generally more than this. Photo by NeONBRAND on Unsplash When do most people think about when hiring an interior designer? Aesthetic choices: paint colors for the wall; curtains, blinds, or shutters; a new sofa and rug; fabric patterns for pillows; and so on. But there's a lot more that a designer can add to a home. A professional designer can go beyond mere cosmetics to ensure that the whole room feels harmonious through and through, from the space plan (floor plan) to the finishing details to yes, fabric and wall color choices. The designer also deals with a whole host of stores, vendors, contractors, electricians, painters, other artists, and more depending upon the project. A good interior designer will take your needs, personality, tastes, and lifestyle into account, not just thrust their own style upon you and assume your needs for the project. A good interior designer will also take the time to build relationships and
